Common Questions About Assisted Living in Tucson

Making a decision to move your parent or loved one into assisted living is never an easy one. There’s the emotions of moving out of their long time home and sometimes health related anxiety too. Before you decide which type of home is best it’s valuable knowing the different types of assisted living facilities and the costs of each one.

3 Basic Types of Assisted Living In Tucson

There are three basics types of senior living. First there is care home style which can be furnished or unfurnished up to 10 clients with 1 to 3 certified caregivers providing 24 hour care. A care home provides 3 meals daily, medical administration, housekeeping, laundry, & assist with bathing, dressing, grooming, socialization, and diabetic care.

Secondly, there’s assisted and/or independent living apartment. Typically an unfurnished apartment style setting where the caregiver comes to the apartment to provide care. Care includes but not limited to scheduled medical administration, housekeeping, laundry, assist with bathing, grooming, socialization, and diabetic care. Many of the larger facilities provide transportation, lots of activities, on-site gym, restaurant style dining, and swimming pool. Caregiver ratio varies depending on size of facility.

The third type is memory care for those clients with dementia and cognitive related diseases. Typically these facilities are secured with specially trained staff and can come in both apartment style or a home style setting.

Pricing For 3 Types of Tucson Assisted Living

Each level and type of care has pricing that reflects the extent of care the client receives. For care home style living the cost depends on the size of the room, level of care, and other factors determined by the facilty. A semi-private room ranges in cost between $2.000-$3,500 per month while a private room is $3,000 to $4,500.

Assisted living in an apartment style setting have varying costs based on the size of the apartment, level, of care, and other factors determined by the facility. The community fee and deposits are not included in the base rent. Level of care and pricing can vary widely based on the need of the clients. One bedroom ranges from $2200 to $3500 while two bedrooms are between $3,200 and $4,900 per month.

The cost of memory care is based on the same factors as Care home style and Assisted living and due to the level of and specific care required the monthly cost is substantially higher as well. Memory care for a care home style setting for a semi-private room ranges from $3,500 to $5,000 and private rooms range from $4500 to $6,000. This same memory care in an apartment style setting with a private room ranges from $6,000 to $8,000 per month.

After becoming familiar with types of assisted living and the costs associated with it the next question is often about insurance.  Private long term care insurance and Arizona Long Term care program (ALTEC) can cover a considerable portion of the expense if you have purchased the insurance beforehand or qualify for it. Otherwise all costs are private pay.
